Calling all brides to be, bridesmaids. Mother of the bride and Mother of the groom. So this is the big year, you’ve got the dress, the venue, the cake, the photographer, you’re ready to go but then you realised you want to look your absolute best on your wedding day! So when is the right time to start working on your skin?

The sooner the better.

I have many stories of brides or mother of the bride who attend a couple of weeks before the wedding wanting botox as they haven’t had it before but want to look there best on the big day and I always turn them away. You may think this is cruel and heartless but in fact I am doing them a massive favour.

Let’s take botox or let’s call it by its medication name of botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin or botox as it is better know is a prescription only medication and consideration for dosage of any medication is essential. Botox is injected in to the muscles to reduce muscle movement which in turn reduces the creasing of the skin reducing lines and wrinkles. It takes around 10-14 days to take full effect. So you’re thinking so 2 weeks before the big day is the perfect time right?

Wrong!!!! It’s important to get the dose right and there are factors that can affect it. At 2 weeks post botox treatment is the time for a review and to make any adjustments to the dose as needed.

I’d suggest a minimum of 4 weeks before, however in preparation for such a big event where there is going to be photo that last a lifetime a preference of having the treatment previously is best. This way knowing how you personally respond to it and the dosage that suits you best this way it will enable the better results for you on your big day.

This essentially goes for any treatment. Having a skin peel or microneedling  7-10 days before the special event will leave skin flawless, glowing and radiant. However if you have not had this treatment previously it is not sensible to have this for the first time just before your wedding.

Again in most cases skin will respond how we expect to and be glowing, however what if it is not? What if you have a reaction to it, what if skin takes longer to settle. All skin is individual and it is important we respect this and treat accordingly. It may also be that you are looking to treat something in particular such as acne and this can take time a treatment plan is best course of action.

Around 6 months before is a perfect amount of time to discuss your concerns, what you want to achieve, make a treatment plan and carry this out including home care.

But there is no limit to this the sooner you start the better the outcome.

Here at Essence Cumbria, I have helped many brides prepare for their weddings including my own. I also gift special home care pack to use the evening before the big day for that extra smooth skin.

So if you have a big day, special event coming up book your consultation appointment now
